Art Music Scotland is a new organisation which aims to support and develop the careers of creative professionals from Scotland who work with traditional, jazz, experimental, and art music.

The team have long track records of programming, project management, artistic direction, production, publishing, fundraising, export, and the creation of online resources. They have experience from the point of view of performers and creators, project planners, and as audience members.

The organisation was formed following the Nordic Music Days festival in 2024 in order to ensure and build on the legacy of the connections formed with the Nordic Composers’ Council and various organisations throughout the Nordic region.

Andy is a freelance Horn Player, Educator, Creative Producer, and Artistic Director.

He studied Music at the University of York before moving back north to Glasgow for his Masters degree at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. After a season as Solo Horn of Slovenian National Opera and Ballet in Ljubljana, he returned to Scotland. Since then he has played regularly with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Concert Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, and Red Note Ensemble, and has been a guest player with groups including Hebrides Ensemble, Ensemble Modern, Chineke!, The Wallace Collection, and Le Concert Olympique. He is a member of the GRIT Orchestra and the Rookh Quartet, and one of the ensemble for Joanna Nicholson’s Aud the Deep-Minded.

He was the Performance Consultant for the University of Glasgow’s Music degree courses from 2012 unil 2025, and has given workshops at the University of Edinburgh, Aberdeen University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Andy was Artistic Director of The Cottier Chamber Project and chamber ensemble Daniel’s Beard, and is a trustee of both The Night With… and New Music Scotland, and is an alumnus of the European Festivals’ Association’s Festival Academy. He led Scotland’s involvement in and hosting of Nordic Music Days (which took place in Glasgow in 2024), and was awarded the Nordic Composers’ Council’s Prize for Services to Contemporary Music in 2024.

Rosie is a creative producer and arts leader based on the West Coast, with a background in music, events, and community engagement. Passionate about designing high-quality, multi-artform projects that connect diverse audiences, she specialises in co-creating work with young people and communities through a collaborative and inclusive approach.

Rosie has worked with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, including the RSNO, Liverpool Philharmonic, and Philharmonia Orchestra, delivering large-scale education and participation projects nationwide. Since returning to Scotland in 2019, she has worked with the RSNO, collaborating with local arts organisations, festivals, and independent artists to produce performances, workshops, and creative development programmes.

Originally from Edinburgh, Rosie studied music at the University of York and now lives in Largs with her young family. When not “mumming” or making art happen, she’s usually found up a hill.

Sofi Nowell is a freelance Creative Producer focusing on interdisciplinary projects and artist development. With over 20 years experience in the arts, she enjoys working with experimental and electronic music, and on projects that explore new ways of presenting performance.

Between 2021-25 Sofi led the Snape Residencies programme at Britten Pears Arts in Suffolk. During her time there she supported hundreds of artists to develop their practice through bespoke week-long residencies including Magnus Westwell, BULLYACHE, Luke Abbott and Idrîsî Ensemble. She programmed and commissioned works for Festival of New and Aldeburgh Festival, including Lotte Betts-Dean, Explore Ensemble, Chisato Minamimura and Xhosa Cole. Previously she led on international touring and production at Black Acre in Bristol, working with
a roster of artists including Alfa Mist, Kampire and Loraine James. Committed to improving inclusivity in the industry she created Black Acre Pathways, a year-long programme funded by Youth Music’s Incubator Fund which supported young people to develop a career in the music business.

In 2021 she completed an MA in Arts Management at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, which piqued her interest in accessibility in the arts. She is proud to have worked with Taking Flight Theatre, Hijinx Theatre, Selina Thompson and Victor Esses as a live captioner for digital performance. She has extensive experience fundraising across trusts, foundations and public funding, including as an Access Support Worker, and in marketing, PR and audience development.

Sofi began her career as a promoter, programmer and booking agent in Bristol’s DIY music scene, placing ambitious live performance in unusual spaces with artists including Four Tet, Stephen O’Malley, Pharmakon and Haxan Cloak. She has been a panellist for Saffron Records, Jerwood Jazz Encounters and Sounding Change, and is particularly interested in intersectionality, non-traditional routes into the arts, and making space for people to experiment and take risks.

She lives in Scotland with her partner and young son.

Sophie Rocks is a harpist and producer, driven by a passion for bringing high-quality chamber music into communities across Scotland.

Alongside a busy freelance performing career, Sophie has a strong portfolio of arts management experience, including producing music projects, promoting a community-focused concert series, managing events and projects, and fundraising - demonstrating her drive and expertise to make things happen.

In 2021, she founded Music At The Green, a Glasgow-based initiative showcasing local music in community and green spaces. The project’s mission is to take high-quality music out of traditional concert halls and into neighbourhoods, making all genres accessible, affordable, and sustainable for local communities.

Sophie performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and community artist, and as a freelance performer with Live Music Now Scotland, she delivers concerts specially designed to connect with audiences beyond the music itself, having been trained to engage audiences in diverse settings from care homes to concert halls.

She began her arts management journey providing project support at Live Music Now Scotland before joining the Scottish Music Centre as Membership Officer, where she increased membership by over 50%. She continues to work as a freelance Events Manager with the Scottish Music Centre, while also producing and funding projects of her own, most notably for her clarsach group, The Willow Trio.

Returning to a freelance career in 2025 as a musician, producer, and project manager, Sophie aims to make a difference across Scotland through music, combining her creative vision with seamless operational delivery. Her passion, combined with her diverse experience across performance, production, project management and fundraising in Scotland, ensures that every project she leads is both inspiring and expertly executed.
